“Pink’s Hot Dogs is an L.A. landmark/institution that has been around since 1939, so it felt completely natural for the Entourage cast to hang out there,” says Art Streiber, who photographed the stars of the movie for Vanity Fair. “Sisters-in-law Gloria and Beverly Pink were fantastic hostesses and made sure we had unfettered access to the restaurant and all of the hot dogs and french fries we needed for the shoot.

“The Entourage guys were a pleasure to work with, as always,” he continues, “and gave the shoot the energy and sense of reality that it needed…just five guys, in suits, hanging out at a hot dog stand.”

Lauren Greenfield and Leo Burnett follow up their award-winning #LikeAGirl spot for Always with the empowering #Unstoppable

Just a couple of weeks ago, #LikeAGirl—directed by Lauren Greenfield for Leo Burnett and Procter & Gamble‘s Alwaysswept the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Now Lauren, who is represented for directing projects by Chelsea Pictures, is back with an equally resonant new film for Always that continues the brand’s message of empowerment for young girls.

In #Unstoppable, Lauren asks both girls and women whether they’ve ever felt like they’re being limited because they’re female.

“The answers are just as revealing as those in #LikeAGirl: from the little girl who poignantly says, ‘It’s always the boys who rescue the girls in the stories’ to the older women talking about how they changed when they reached puberty,” notes Creativity, which made the spot an Editor’s Pick.

In the spot, girls write their perceived limitations on white cardboard boxes—and then gleefully smash through them. Below, #Unstoppable, plus a handful of articles on the campaign.

“How to teach girls to be confident #LikeAGirl,” CNN

“How P&G Is Making the Always #LikeAGirl Movement Unstoppable,” Brand Channel

“Always Follows #LikeaGirl With #Unstoppable Campaign: Another Lauren Greenfield Film Puts Spotlight on Fighting Society’s Limitations,” Creativity

“Always’ New #LikeAGirl Video Inspires Us to Be Unstoppable,” Twist

“Always releases follow up to Like a Girl,” Creative Review

“Ad of the Day: Girls Are Unstoppable in Next Phase of Always ‘Like a Girl’ Campaign They smash their limitations in latest Leo Burnett spot,” Adweek

In the exhibition “Bookmarks,” organized by advertising agency Havas Paris, Guzman and other photographers picture the intersection between brands and literature

Among the exhibitions at this year’s Rencontres d’Arles is “Bookmarks,” a show conceived and coordinated by advertising agency Havas Paris that suggests links between major brands and literature.

Guzman—photo duo Connie Hansen and Russell Peacock—were asked to be part of the show, which was spearheaded by Christophe Coffre, creative director and co-president of Havas Paris.

“While brands are often associated with classical or contemporary art, cinema, and music, they’re less present in the literary world,” noted Coffre in his invitation to the photographers. “…Let’s put brand names or logos on bookmarks and slip them into books. Books tell stories, as do brands. Let’s see what happens when they meet.”

Thus, Guzman were invited to choose from a list of brand/book pairs and selected Amazon and the book The Virgin Suicides, Jeffrey Eugenides’ bestselling tale of five teen sisters and their troubled, tragic lives.

“We thought Havas had a good combo in that choice: Amazon and a group of recalcitrant teenagers,” says Connie. “So we photographed roller-derby girls, who are modern-day amazons, a performance artist in clown drag—a sad story—and a young hip woman who looks like she might read the book or be one of the teenagers in the story.”

In viewing “Bookmarks,” writer Severine Morel of L’Oeil de la Photographie (The Eye of Photography) says, “one realizes that the world of a brand is also often a story, however artificial, and a reflection of what we are and what we dream of becoming.”

“While art photographers struggle to succeed in the world of commercial photography, professional commercial photographers struggle to have their work taken seriously by the art world,” she continues. “It’s as though there were two different aesthetics, two competing worlds of photography. ‘Bookmarks’ is the proof that this schism is illusory.”

“Bookmarks (Marque-page)” is on view through July 14 at Arles Havas Gallery, Rue du Palais, Arles, France.

In “Hallelujah Anyway,” a fashion video directed by Annabel Mehran for Opening Ceremony, Parkour athletes model Issey Miyake’s graceful designs in a black & white Coney Island

Last night in New York City, Opening Ceremony unveiled “Hallelujah Anyway,” a men’s fashion video editorial directed by Annabel Mehran.

In the short film, which Annabel shot on location in Coney Island, Parkour traceurs—fearless, gravity-defying athletes whose skills can make you wonder if people actually can fly—vault and jump throughout the legendary seaside park wearing Homme Plissé Issey Miyake clothes.

“The gentle folds and technical pleats that are synonymous with the Issey Miyake fashion house have been waiting for a moment to show off their flexibility,” notes Opening Ceremony in the introduction to the video, which features the Post Malones‘ dreamy track “White Iverson.”

Doug Menuez documents a visiting-nurse program in the South Bronx that supports new moms

Making sure new moms have a solid foundation to be great parents is the mission of Edna McConnell Clark Foundation’s Nurse-Family Partnership. In the program, specially trained nurses make regular visits to low-income expecting mothers—whose median age is just 19— during their first pregnancy and the first two years of their children’s lives, teaching them parenting and life skills and helping them gain access to job training and education programs.

Doug Menuez, who last year shot an image library for the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, recently documented a day in the life of several of the Nurse-Family Partnership’s nurses and families in the South Bronx. Below are some highlights from his shoots, plus a short behind-the-scenes video. See more at his website: menuez.com/nurse-family-partnership.

Three mighty members of the Indiana Colts’ offensive line pose nude for Art Streiber and ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue

A brief history of Art Streiber and his nude photo shoots for ESPN The Magazine‘s Body Issue: Last year, he photographed pro basketball player Angel McCoughtry; in 2012 he shot the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team; and in 2010, he trained his lens on the USA Women’s Water Polo Team.

But this time, it’s male pro athletes who have shucked their clothes for the sake of Art. For the 2015 Body Issue, which hit newsstands earlier this month, Art photographed three members of the Indiana Colts offensive line: Todd Herremans, Jack Mewhort, and Anthony Castonzo. Scroll down to watch a behind-the-scenes video of the shoot.

The latest Serpentine Pavilion, photographed by John Offenbach, looks like a life-size, brightly colored magic cocoon

$

0

The Serpentine Galleries are currently celebrating the 15th anniversary of their pavilion commission, whereby some of the world’s greatest architects design and build a temporary structure for the Serpentine’s lawn in London’s Kensington Gardens. Zahad Hadid, Daniel Libeskind, Jean Nouvel, and Frank Gehry are among the greats who have designed a Serpentine Pavilion, and the installation is one of the top-10 most-visited architectural and design destinations in the world, according to the Serpentine Galleries.

This year’s pavilion is a particularly fanciful cocoon-like creation designed by Spanish architects SelgasCano, who were inspired variously by London’s Underground, the need to connect to nature and the landscape, and “change, surprise, color, and materials.” (Read more about the 2015 Serpentine Pavilion here.)

John Offenbach, who has photographed many of the previous pavilions, captured the swirly hues and winding intrigue of Selgas-Cano’s design in the images below…
