Photo Journal, the photo blog of The Wall Street Journal, recently interviewed Tobias Hutzler about his striking approach to photographing the landscape, which incorporates natural and artificial light, long exposures, and the sensitivity and vision of a fine artist.
“The landscape is a familiar image in photography and art, subject of the concrete and inspiration to the abstract,” writes Photo Journal’s Chelsea Matiash. “For German photographer Tobias Hutzler, the landscape serves as a canvas and light itself is the subject.
“During the few minutes between day and night,” she continues, “when the landscape is lit evenly at dusk, then wiped clean by dark of night—Mr. Hutzler makes images of light.”
