The second annual Photoville, self-described as “a pop-up village of freight containers transformed into temporary exhibition spaces,” opens today at Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York. This year offers a wide-ranging slate of intriguing exhibitions, including a show of Peter van Agtmael‘s work curated by the team behind Time‘s LightBox photography blog; a group show presented by Dear Dave, magazine; fruit-related photography curated by Alison Zavos of Feature Shoot; and photographs by Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner.

There will also be more than 50 talks, workshops, and panel discussions; a beer garden featuring a variety of nighttime events; and a selection of installations and happenings.

Photoville, which reportedly attracted nearly 40,000 visitors last year, is the brainchild of United Photo Industries. In their own words: “Formed in 2011 by Sam Barzilay, Laura Roumanos and Dave Shelley, United Photo Industries is a Brooklyn-based art-presenting organization producing unique, site-specific exhibitions, installations, and events that explore new thematic directions in photography. Working closely with emerging and mid-career photographers, United Photo Industries’ mission is to promote and showcase powerful photographic narratives through curated exhibitions and projects in New York City and around the world.”
